Book:
9 Degrees North:
The ABCs of North Ghana
|
We are thrilled to announce that our children’s book, 9 DEGREES NORTH: The ABCs of North Ghana has been published and is now available for purchase.
This exceptional hard cover book has 48 interesting and unique pages in vibrant color. The artwork is extraordinary, thanks to the 29 professional children's illustrators and artists who understood our vision of writing an ABC book for the children of North Ghana. They agreed to donate their expertise to make this project a reality. Everyone involved in this project, including Friesens Publishers, have given more than was ever expected. Special thanks go to Mike Boldt of Boldtman Studios who most successfully completed the artistic direction of this project. The six page appendix, highlighted with photos, gives additional information for each subject.
Your personal copy, or a copy for gift giving, will cost CDN $20. For CDN $30, you will receive your personal copy, PLUS a copy of the book AND a soccer ball will be delivered to a Ghanaian school as your personal gift to the children of the Northern Region. Schools and libraries in North America can inquire about purchase discounts. Proceeds from the sale of this book will continue to support scholarships for girls in North Ghana.

African Art
Tools for Schools Africa Foundation is fortunate to work with three of Africa's finest artists:
Francis Amoah and Hilton Korley of Accra, Ghana and Dominic Lukandwa of Kampala, Uganda. Pieces of their art are for sale on this site at various times. Please check back to see what is currently available. Proceeds from the sales of the art help support our scholarship program.
The slide show includes pieces we have already sold. Below are batiks by Dominic Lukandwa that are presently for sale. Dominic is one of the finest young artists in Africa, and his works are very collectable.
Featured Artist: Francis Amoah, Accra
Our featured artist, Francis Amoah, was born in Accra in the late 70's and early on developed an interest in art. While attending secondary school in Accra he received some instruction in visual arts, and later continued his training at the Ankle College of Arts in Accra. Francis works mainly in acrylics and oils on canvas. His paintings range from realism to semi-abstract and are characterized by bold colors and the use of a palette knife to add texture and vibrancy. Many of his pictures are commentaries on day to day life in Ghana, often centered on the hard working women. In particular he enjoys painting market scenes and seascapes.
Amoah's painting hang in collections in Europe, North America and Africa. In 2007 UNICEF selected some of his paintings to be featured in their greeting card collection. In the summer of 2008 he had a one man show at the National Gallery of Art in Accra. Francis is a member of the Ghanaian Association of Visual Artists.
Update as of February 2012: In 2010-2011 we had close to 20 beautiful art pieces from the artists: Francis Amoah, Hilton Korley, and Kumasi artist Asenian. They sold quickly and we look forward to presenting more of these artists beautiful creations in the future.
